Small retail footwear stores can generate much business by advertising through direct mail. Direct mail is the regular mail that comes through the post office and is delivered daily by a mail carrier.

Flyers are generally inexpensive to print and can be folded and put into an envelope and mailed to anyone very easily. A bulk postage rate can be paid by the small retail footwear store, which is cheaper than regular postage. Sending direct mail to houses is a great way to advertise.

The direct mail can include flyers for the retail footwear store. The flyers can include many different things on them. The flyer might have pictures of the shoes that are currently in stock. The flyer might have the address of the retail footwear store. The flyer might have the hours that store is open daily on it. The flyer might contain testimonials from other past customers bragging about how great the retail footwear store has treated them or how friendly the service is at the small footwear store. The flyer can also have a letter from the owner of the retail footwear store or from the manager of the small footwear store.

Direct mail is an inexpensive way for a business to advertise itself. Many individuals check their mail daily. Often times individuals throw away their advertisements that are not in envelopes; however, many individuals open envelopes because they are curious about what is inside the envelope. However, many individuals also throw away their mail if they do not know what it is.

Another way to get individuals to open their mail and actually read the advertisement from the small retail footwear store is to use “lumpy mail”. Lumpy mail is a method that many places of business use to make sure that individuals open their mail and see the advertisement.

“Lumpy mail” is regular mail that is delivered by the mail carrier; however, “lumpy mail” has a lump in it. A piece of mail with a lump in it will not sit flat with the rest of the mail. The person can not ignore the mail with a lump in it by tossing it into a pile with the rest of the mail because it will not sit flat. Many individuals will open the “lumpy mail” because it has a lump in it. The individual will want to know what the lump in the mail is; therefore, the individuals will open the mail. Once the person opens the mail he will see the advertisement for the retail footwear store.

The lump in “lumpy mail” can be something small like a pen or key chain. Any number of items could be used to make the mail lumpy. Something that is cheap to make and that will not cost more in shipping should be used to make “lumpy mail”.

Many people will be curious about what the lump in the envelope in the mail is; therefore, many people will open the envelope with the lump in it. When people open the envelope they will see the advertisement. The advertisement will encourage the person to visit the small retail footwear store.
