Uses for Fireproof File Cabinets

There are many benefits to using fireproof file cabinets, and more about them can be read here. However, some people may not realize just how useful they can be. Fireproof file cabinets are not just for storing papers, but can be used for a variety of purposes.

Generally, a file cabinet is used to store two types of paper files: legal and letter sized files. However, when using fireproof file cabinets, you will want to make sure you are not wasting the valuable protective space on files that are unimportant. Try to use it for documents that are difficult to replace, or may be needed for years into the future. Some examples for the home would include: mortgage and other bank loan papers, birth certificates, social security information, retirement account information, life insurance documents, and anything else that may contain social security numbers, personal information, and bank information that cannot easily be replaced or may cost time and hassle to replace.

Because fireproof file cabinets have the same look, feel, and function as non-fireproof file cabinets, you may not think of them as pieces of decorative furniture, but they can be. Use a fireproof file cabinet as a room divider, and place live or silk plants on top to give a home or office space a fresh new look.  Of course, any decorative items could be used. Because they are made from high-quality metal, using a variety of magnets to hang non-essential papers, such as restaurant take-out menus, pictures drawn by your children, or to-do lists can be another useful way to utilize a fireproof file cabinet. Fireproof file cabinets are very sturdy, and could be used to support a printer or desktop copy machine to organize an office or home office space easily.

Another use many people do not consider is using a fireproof file cabinet to store items other than papers. You could dedicate a drawer to store electronic files from your computer on backup discs. This would give you the added assurance to know that all your files, hard copies and electronic copies are protected in the event of a fire. There are so many uses for fireproof file cabinets, it would be an oversight to not consider purchasing one for your home or office today.
